En la actualidad se está planteando la posibilidad de hacer algunos cambios en el Escudo de la República de Colombia en sus elementos especificados en la Ley del 9 de Mayo de 1834, adicionales a las únicas modificaciones realizadas en la utilización de las banderas de Colombia en lugar del "campo verde adornado de algunas plantas menudas" que fueron planteadas en su diseño original, sus colores y disposiciones finales fijados por el decreto del 20 de Julio de 1861.
Es necesario señalar que los elementos utilizados en los diferentes niveles son simbólicos y que en su mayoría son usados de conceptos representativos universales, especialmente del continente europeo; lo único propio del territorio es el ave insignia, o sea el Cóndor, y el dibujo que da la idea de la limitancía con los dos mares.
Si la idea es, retocar los componentes simbólicos para introducirle actualizaciones y mejoras con la finalidad de que represente más acertadamente al país, pero siga conservando los valores y principios primigenios, nos permitimos proponer los cambios o actualizaciones siguientes, para lo cual procederemos de arriba hacia abajo con los diferentes elementos y franjas.
El haz de banderas quedarían inmutables; el mismo número, inclinación y disposición.
El cóndor( Vulttur gryphus), ave en peligro de extinción, presente en todos los países con cordillerra de los Andes puede ser sustituido por la Especie “ Rey Gallinazo”( Sarcoramphus papa), con características similares pero de mas vistoso colorido y más específico del territorio colombiano. También puede ser reemplazado por mucha de las grandes águilas de la nación; la más imperiosa “El Águila Harpía” (Harpya harpya), considerada el ave más grande del planeta.
La corona de Laurel puede quedar igual o ser sustituida por planta emblemática colombiana, de las cuales tenemos innumerables.
La cinta con las palabras libertad y orden, quedarían igual.
La granada podría sustituirse por una esplendorosa mazorca de maíz, con su capacho verde y granos de oro, simbolizando la importancia de esta planta en las sucesivas etapas de desarrollo del país, desde las épocas del formativo hasta la actualidad.
Los cuernos o cornucopias de la abundancia podrían reemplazarse por sendas mochilas de fique, de las hechas por las diferentes etnias colombianas como los Aruhacos, Wayús o Chimilas; utensilios que además sirven para contener los elementos básicos de la cultura, como alimentos e instrumentos, unas reciben una connotación sagrada y simbólica, como el útero de la madre. Los elementos que saldrían de ellas-en vez de monedas- pepitas de oro y monedas de plata; de la otra, los frutos de la tierra. También, podrían reemplazarse por sendos Calabazos de Bangaña (Lagenaria vulgaris).
El gorro frigio, elemento extraño a tierras americanas sería sustituido por el sombrero vueltia´o, de génesis aborigen, fabricado con “Caña Flecha”, planta ancestral colombiana; o por el gorro utilizado por los aruhacos de la Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.
En la franja, hoy en polémica, se conservaría, la representación de ser el único país suramericano bañado por dos mares, corriendo hacia la izquierda lo correspondiente a Colombia, tratando de sacar la parte panameña, pero permaneciendo la idea de los dos Mares. En la parte de arriba, o sea lo correspondiente al Caribe, se sustituiría el barco por las islas de San Andrés, Providencia y cayos colombianos; en la parte de abajo, lo atinente al pacifico quedaría igual lo del barco a velas, representando el intercambio comercial por todos los océanos.

OPINIONS AND PROPOSALS ABOUT THE COLOMBIAN SHIELD

They are currently proposing the possibility of making a few changes on the Coat of Arms of The Republic of Colombia on the elements specified by May 9 law, 1834, additional to the only modifications performed in the use of Colombian flags instead of the “vert field adorned by small plants” that were proposed on its original design, its colors and final dispositions set forth through Decree 20 of July, 1861.
It is necessary to point out that the elements used on the different divisions are symbolic, and they are mostly used as universal depictions, especially of the European Continent; the only thing belonging to this territory is the ensign bird or Condor, and the drawing that suggests the two oceans bordering the country.

If the idea is to touch up the symbolic components
to update and improve them, with the intention of making a more accurate
depiction of the country, and continue to preserve the primordial values and
principles, we take the liberty of proposing the following changes or updates, starting
from top to bottom, with the different elements and divisions.
The bundle of flags would stay the same; same number, bent and disposed as they are.
The Condor ( Vulttur gryphus), bird on the verge of extinction, living in all countries within the Andean mountain range, may be substituted by the species “King Vulture”( Sarcoramphus papa), with similar characteristics but with more vivid coloring and belonging more specifically to the Colombian Territory. It can also be replaced by many of the great eagles of the nation; the most imperious being the “Harpy Eagle” (Harpya harpya), considered as the biggest bird of the planet.
The laurel Crown may stay as is or be substituted by Colombian emblematic plants, of which we have many.
The wreath with the words “Liberty and Order”, would stay as it is.
The pomegranate could be substituted by a splendorous ear of corn, with its green husk and golden kernels, symbolizing the importance of this plant in the successive developmental stages of this country, since its beginnings until today.
The horns of plenty or cornucopias could be replaced by the corresponding hemp shoulder bags, as manufactured by the different Colombian ethnic groups like Arhuaco, Wayuús or Chimilas; they are also useful to contain the basic elements of the culture like food and instruments; some have a sacred and symbolic connotation, like the uterus of the mother. The elements coming out of them, instead of coins, gold nuggets and silver coins, could be the fruits of the earth. The cornucopias can also be replaced by the corresponding bottle gourds (Lagenaria vulgaris).
The Phrygian cap, a foreign element to our American lands would be replaced by the “sombrero vueltia´o”, of aboriginal origins, manufactured with “Caña Flecha”(a local cane), a Colombian ancestral plant; or by the cap used by the Arhuaco Indians of the Sierra Nevada of Santa Marta.
Within the stripe, currently very controversial, we would still depict the fact of being the only South American country bathed by two oceans, moving towards the left what corresponds to Colombia, and leaving Panama out, but keeping the idea of the two oceans. On the upper part, or the Caribbean, we would substitute the ship for the islands of San Andrés, Providence and the Colombian keys; on the bottom part, the Pacific would remain the same, with the sailing ship representing the commercial exchange over the oceans.

estoy de acuerdo con la idea de hacer un nuevo escudo, el actual tiene mucha influencia europea, pienso que deberiamos hacer un escudo un poco mas criollo que exponga y muestre lo que en realidad es Colombia
